Naples Area

Naples, this sophisticated city has everything for the tourist but retains its charm and elegance. With miles of sandy beaches, you can enjoy the beautiful Floridian weather and the warm waters of the Gulf. Not only is it ideal for those who enjoy a lazy day at the beach but also for those who enjoy water sports - with jet skiing, scuba diving and even paragliding available in Naples or nearby Marco Island. Fish off the Naples Pier or take a fishing excursion (private or in a group) to go back water or deep sea fishing from Naples or Marco Island. It is an enjoyable, fun ½ or full day out for expert fishermen and novices alike (including children). You even get to catch your own dinner!. Fishing off Naples Pier does not require a licence and we provide fishing rods so you can enjoy a day fishing free of charge! You can also hire a boat, take a sightseeing tour or dinner cruise or even enjoy an exciting trip on a Catamaran. Close up sightings of dolphins are almost guaranteed and if your are lucky you may even get to see a manatee. (You can also see some of the multimillion dollar homes that line the waterways!)

This area of Florida is known for its wildlife, conservation centers and State Parks, where you can learn about all the local fauna and flora. Take a trip into the Mangroves or visit the Naples Conservancy center (which includes a 15 minute boat ride), go on one of the many eco-tours on offer (by boat, kayak etc.) or visit one of the many State Parks. You can also drive into the Everglades and take a ride on an Airboat, Swamp Buggy and even visit an alligator farm (all 20 - 35 minutes depending on which one you choose). If you take an airboat ride from Everglades City, stop off at the boardwalk on Turner River Road (located a few miles before the off from Alligator Alley), there you are almost guaranteed to come up close to wild alligators (from the safety of the walkway of course!).

Also recommended is a visit to Marco Island which has many restaurants, a marina from where you can take trips or hire boats and of course more wonderful beaches. In season (winter months), from the Marco Marina you can even take a fast boat to Key West - stay the day or overnight. You can even From the (very small) Marco Executive Airport you can hire a small plane (5 seater including the pilot) for a sightseeing tour of the Island and Naples. Similar plane trips are also available from Naples Airport. From Coral Falls where our condo is located, it is a mere 10 minute drive to the impressive Judge Jolley bridge which is one of the two bridges that takes you onto the Island.

Naples itself has many art galleries. In addition, it has a zoo, The Caribbean Gardens, which has "meet the animals" shows and a boat ride around small island where monkeys and other wildlife live. Also for children, there is King Richards Family Fun Park with amusements, rides and Go Carts. The miniature golf (Coral Reef) is a mere 10 minutes way down the US 41 (Tamiami Trail) and Swamp Buggy Races take place locally during January, March and October . Further a field (45 minutes away) is the Fort Myers Science Museum - a "hands on" fun museum which is great for younger children.

For those who enjoy horse riding (you don't need to be an expert!), you can even go trail riding at the nearby M & H Stables, which is a 10 minute drive away off the 951. You can also take a sightseeing trip on the Naples or Marco Trolleys buses, both of which stop by the shops local to Coral Falls (a 10 minute walk away). You'll get a narrated tour so you can learn all about the area and you can even get off at any of the stops - shop, dine and sightsee and then reboard free of charge when it comes around again (approximately 1 hour later).

Shopping - especially for visitors from Europe, is usually one of the highlights of their visit! Naples will not disappoint. Downtown's Third Street South, rich in galleries, also abounds in fashion boutiques and interior design shops. Palm-lined Fifth Avenue South, also in downtown Old Naples (near the pier), supplies historic main street atmosphere with shops, restaurants, pubs, bistros, and the Sugden Community Theatre, with monthly "Evening on the Fifth" events as part of a year-round schedule of art shows, sidewalk sales and themed happenings. Visit the Waterside Shops, a collection of some 60 designer and specialty stores, including Saks Fifth Avenue, Cartier, Gucci, Tiffany & Co. and more, all surrounded by waterfalls, flower beds, and royal palms. With elegant, watery ambiance, The Village at Venetian Bay has more than 60 shops, galleries and restaurants, plus park benches for relaxing with ice cream cones or cappuccino. You can also visit Naples main mall (The Coastland Mall) where you will find all the usual stores including department store. For the bargain hunter go to "Prime Outlets", factory outlet stores which are a mere 5 minutes away from Lely (on the way to Marco) or venture further afield to the very large Miromar factory outlet center (25 minute drive up the I75) - there you will find nearly all the top brands are represented.
